Enjoy chess in a peaceful rural setting at the Middlebury Open. Organizer/host Merlin Stoltzfus invites you to a day of unrated chess on his farm near Middlebury, Indiana. The tournament will be 6 rounds, G/30;d5. Sets and clocks will be provided. There will be modest cash prizes, partially underwritten by Beers Mallers Attorneys at Law. A cash donation in the $10-15 range would be appreciated. Pay on-site with cash or a check payable to Merlin Stoltzfus.
The tournament will be unrated, but will essentially follow USCF rules, especially on the top boards. Notation is generally not enforced. There may be a bit more noise than in your average rated tournament, so if you are super picky about playing conditions and love to nit-pick your way through the rule book, this may not be for you. But for the rest of us, this will be a fun tournament.
Your donation will not only give you a day of chess, but will also feed you! Yes, Merlin will supply lunch.
The date is February 11. The address is 11851 County Road 20, Middlebury IN. First round starts at 8:30. Be there a few minutes early. Enter in advance, so we're ready to go on the dot. To enter, just email your intentions to me at joepye@pobox.com. Once I get a few entries, I'll post them here.
