Goshen Futurity Chess Tournaments

The Goshen Futurity Chess Tournaments are a series of rated chess tournament sponsored by the Joepye Chess Club and held in the Goshen Public Library roughly on a monthly schedule. Our next tournament will be held on December 14. This tournament is open to all, 4-SS, G/35;d5. There is no entry fee and there will be no prizes. Since it is rated, US Chess membership is required, and participants will be required to take notation. We operate under standard US Chess rules with three exceptions - 1) when EITHER player gets under 10 minutes on their clock, BOTH players may stop notating, 2) I reserve the right to adjudicate games that go long to keep us on schedule (I have never had to do that and don't expect to ever have to do it, but we do have to be done when the library closes), and 3) bye players will not get any points for their bye. The tournament begins at 10:30. Players should be in the room by 10:15. There is no lunch hour. You may bring snacks. We must be out of the library by 4:00PM, so we aim to finish by 3:30PM. It isn't unusual to finish much earlier. To see a list of entrants for this tournament, go here.

Some guidelines about our tournaments

  1. Players must enter in advance.
  2. We have to fit comfortably into the library schedule. The meeting rooms are open from 10-4 on Saturday.
  3. If absolutely necessary, I may adjudicate games to get out of the library in time!
  4. We will adopt the rule that once EITHER player has under 10 minutes on their clock, BOTH players may stop keeping notation.
  5. So I don't need to drag a ton of equipment to the library, we will limit attendance to 20 players or fewer.
  6. We generally use accelerated pairings. We (the director and the players) will remain flexible and adjust the tournament format to the entries we have.
  7. Early withdrawals will be shunned for the rest of their earthly lives! Don't sign up unless you plan to complete your schedule.
  8. Entrants will display impeccable comportment and not get on the tournament director's nerves!
  9. Children do not need to be accompanyed by an adult, but children who misbehave will be sentenced to a lifetime of practicing Ladder Mates.

If you are interested in taking part, make sure your US Chess membership is up to date and join or renew if necessary. You can do that at https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess.
